He loves his family and is a bit of a spoiled brat, but he's actually very sensitive.
Luke, a member of J.F.'s family, is a 3-year-old male Shetland Sheepdog.
He has a sturdy build and is bright and full of energy indoors.
On the other hand, he can be a bit shy outdoors, showing a sensitive side to his personality.

Our encounter with Wanko Dashi

There was one clear reason I visited Interpets Osaka in 2024.
I was searching for something I could truly trust—for Luke’s kidney health.

At the venue, the word “yakuzen” suddenly caught my eye.
In that moment, I felt something stir deeply within me.

I have always believed that “to eat is to live.”
Because the body is shaped by what we take in, I’ve wanted to support it from within through daily meals.
That belief aligned perfectly with the philosophy of yakuzen.

I just knew—“This is it.”
I felt strongly that this dashi was worth trying to help improve Luke’s condition.

That encounter on that day became a significant step in the journey of protecting Luke’s health.

Visible changes and a sense of reassurance as a pet owner

When Luke was still just one year old, he was diagnosed with stage 1 kidney disease.
Amid the worry of him being so young, the veterinarian told me, “Above all, make sure he drinks plenty of fluids.”

Since then, I’ve done everything I can—making homemade bone broth, avoiding additives, and carefully choosing natural ingredients—in a desperate effort to support his health.

However, I continued searching for a better way—one that would allow me to provide him with consistent and safe hydration every single day.

  • A noticeable increase in hydration
Since introducing "Wanko Dashi," his water intake has increased remarkably.
Rather than being forced to drink, he now enjoys it on his own and naturally stays hydrated.
Seeing that has become my greatest source of reassurance.
  • Stable health markers
Regular blood tests have also shown that his kidney values remain stable.
Our goal was to prevent his condition from worsening, so this result has truly been a source of relief.
I strongly feel that our daily efforts are steadily reflecting in his health.
  • Owner-friendly usability
The fact that it requires no complicated preparation and can be easily made with cold water has been a huge help in maintaining it as part of our daily routine.
Also, because it’s formulated with a moderate level of animal protein, I feel reassured giving it even when I want to be mindful of his kidney health.
“Right now, I’m doing the best I can for Luke.”
That feeling brings me a sense of peace as well.

How I Use Dashi for My Dog

No matter how good something is, it's meaningless if you can't continue it effortlessly.
Wan-Kou Dashi blended into our daily lives surprisingly naturally.

  1. Always have easy cold brew on hand in the refrigerator.
There's no need to simmer; just steep it in water.
Its ease of use, which doesn't burden even the busiest days, is its appeal.
  2. Serve soup with regular food.
Luke's standard style is to pour plenty of dashi over his dry food.
He can hydrate thoroughly at the same time as his meal, so he gets an ideal intake.
  3. Rotate with homemade soup.
We alternate with homemade soup to add variety to the flavor.
Luke, who disliked fish-based treats, happily drank this dashi from the beginning.
I feel that the quality of the ingredients and aroma conveyed to him.

For those about to try Wanko Dashi

It's there for you not only for daily meals but also when you're feeling under the weather and your appetite has declined. We truly hope that anyone struggling with hydration or those looking to add something truly beneficial to their beloved dog's diet will give it a try.
